Each year Wizz Wizzard organises this festival called Wizzfest, and just like last year, I was there!
The bands this year were Scutigera, Eternal Breath, Assia, Ziyos, Fantasist, Snake Eyes, Wizzard, Beyond The Labyrinth, Chaos Asylum & Attica Rage.
DJ Chippy from the UK was doing the honors of presenting the festival on a very sunny & warm day. The band that opened up the day was the local band Scutigera. This band started out as a cover band but recently they ventured out into the wild with their own material.
Scutigera wasn't of course the only Belgian band, Ethernal Breath took over the stage and they weren't taking No for an answer. After all that aggression came Assia. This female fronted band has played a few shows with Wizzard before so I knew what to expect, some good old Rock & Roll!
Like always, Tiana gave it her all and she rocked the venue together with her brother and the rest of the gang. Just like before the band put down a good show with 80's sounding Rock. They even did a duet with Mr Wizz himself!
The first real surprise of the day however was Ziyos. Being a big heavy metal fan and more precisely the NWOBHM area, I fell in love with this band from the first note.
Their vocalist had just joined the band and this was one of his first gigs with the gang, but man, he sure knows his way arround a stage! Their sound is very Iron Maiden influenced but not so much as to be a cheap rip-off, and did I tell you already they f'cking ROCK? If you have the chance, go see them! That's an order!
Say, have you ever wondered what an Amish would look like if he sported an electric guitar? Well, wonder no more because that's pretty much the look that Fantasist's guitarist sports! Okay, maybe I'm exagerating here, but these guys put up a funky, rocking show with plenty of energy, give'm a listen, you might like what you hear!
Snake Eyes were up next, this is yet another UK band playing some heavy metal madness! They have that typical 80's Heavy Metal sound and they rock!
Wizzard took the stage afterwards and anyone who's been following this site should already be familiar with good ol' Wizzard! Like always, they performed an energetic setlist and the crowd loved it.
The last Belgian band for the day was Beyond The Labyrinth, another regular on this site I guess. P.G. Haggery is feeling right at home since he joined the gang in 2011 and as usual, they played a tight set with the usual suspects, such as Tomorrow is gone and In Flanders Fields.
Chaos Asylum decided to kick it up a notch and that notch got it square in the nuts! Yet another Heavy Metal band that was there to do one thing only: To Rock! Yet another band for the fan of the NWOBHM era to check out. I don't know how Wizz does it, but he sure knows how to pick'm!
Last but not least came Attica Rage, and they were f'cking AWESOME! These guys got it all, the attitude, the looks and most importantly, the sounds! They played an intense set featuring songs of their latest album, Road Dog. If you haven't got the album, get off your lazy ass & buy it!
The also did 2 encores featuring covers such as Billy Idol's Rebel Yell or The Who's My Generarion. This was the perfect way to end the night!
